Idaho State Capitol – On Friday, Senate State Affairs voted to print two property tax bills. The first would raise the homeowners exemption to $120,000 and restore indexing. The second would increase the Circuit Breaker property tax relief.

Representative Lauren Necochea/(D-Boise) commented on the two pieces of legislation.

“I was pleased to see that Republicans are finally willing to hear Democratic plans to decrease property taxes.” Rep. Necochea said. “For years, Democrats have been asking for these pieces of legislation but our concerns have been ignored. It seems that Republicans are finally interested in decreasing property tax bills.”

“I am disappointed that Republicans have waited until the 11th hour to consider legislation that would tangibly decrease property tax bills for Idahoans.” She went on to say. “A lot of Idaho homeowners have been forced out of the homes they planned to live in for the rest of their lives because the legislature refused to take action. And, there’s a good chance that neither of these pieces of legislation will ever be signed into law because they have waited until a week before the end of the legislative session to finally start having the conversation.”
