Idaho House and Senate Democrats released the following statement on the passing of Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne:
“We are mourning the passing of former Governor Dirk Kempthorne. He was truly a public servant of Idaho, whose decades of leadership helped shape the state we know and love today.
“Governor Kempthorne served at the local, state, and national levels – from mayor of Boise to U.S. Senator, Governor, and U.S. Secretary of the Interior – where he played influential roles in advancing infrastructure, strengthening public education, and elevating Idaho’s voice on the national stage.
“We recognize and respect Governor Kempthorne’s dedication to Idaho and his willingness to lead, even when we held different perspectives. His meaningful work on transportation, natural resources, and bipartisan efforts continues to impact communities across our state.
“We also recognize the important role of his wife, Patricia, whose partnership and advocacy, particularly on child welfare issues, reflected a shared commitment to improving the lives of Idahoans.
“Our thoughts are with Mrs. Kempthorne, their children, and all who are grieving. May his legacy continue to inspire a spirit of service, civility, and a commitment to improving the lives of others with dedication and integrity.”
