Idaho State Capitol – On Monday, the House voted 32 – 37 against the proposed budget for higher education. House Bill 603 would have appropriated funding to Boise State University, Lewis Clark State College, Idaho State University, and the University of Idaho.

Senator David Nelson/(D-Moscow) expressed his disappointment that the House had not voted to fund Idaho colleges and universities.

“Idaho’s supermajority killed the higher education budget today. A supermajority allows the far right to kill even bare bones higher education budgets, putting Idaho’s future in peril. We need a more balanced legislature that reflects the values of a majority of Idahoans.”

The Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee now must draft a new budget in hopes that the House will fund higher education in Idaho.
