Idaho State Capitol – On Monday, the COVID Financial Advisory Committee (CFAC) met for the second time. The goal of the committee is to make recommendations to the Governor on how to distribute the $1.25 billion in federal funds to state and local governments during the Coronavirus pandemic. The committee expects that the funds will be available on or around April 24, 2020.
Representative Melissa Wintrow/(D-Boise), the only Democratic legislator on the committee said she is honored to serve on the committee and work with knowledgeable and caring stakeholders to ensure that Idaho communities are safe during coronavirus.
“The federal funds that Idaho received should be used to keep state and local governments from failing due to the unexpected costs incurred during coronavirus.” Rep. Wintrow explained. “It is more important than ever for local governments to have the financial support necessary to keep Idaho communities safe and healthy. Cities and counties need to be able to quickly respond to a crisis without worrying about going bankrupt or cutting other essential services.”
“Idahoans will be able to track the funds through the Transparent Idaho website. In an unprecedented pandemic, the government must remain accountable to the people. We want to assure Idahoans that all branches of local government are working together to respond to their concerns. Every penny of the federal funding will be under review by CFAC and tracked so that Idahoans can understand our decisions.”
CFAC will hold its third meeting on April 17, 2020. All the meetings have been held virtually to maintain social distancing.
